Sacred Yoni Steaming

In the western world, it seems most of us women seem to be in conflict with our feminine power.

Take our menstrual cycles for example. This monthly cycle is the very thing that allows us to bring new life into the world, as well as providing us with insight into our health, yet it’s evident that we’re struggling to appreciate the the miracle of it.

Instead, we may experience terrible cramps, mood swings, candida or just hate the inconvenience of bleeding. To ‘manage’ our ‘inconvenient’ monthly cycles we turn to taking pills, or relying on hormone altering devices. It’s no wonder we’ve fallen out of love with our sexuality.

When we disconnect with our female organs, we neglect to care for them and thus problems are fated to occur.

To rekindle the love for your femininity and nourish your sexual organs, you might like to explore the beautiful practise of Yoni Steaming.

Yoni steaming is just one of the beautiful ways to honour and nourish your femininity, pay homage to our divine power and to reconnect with our sexual health in a way that empowers us as women.

In Sanskrit, the term Yoni literally translates to ‘sacred place’ and the portal for life. Taking on this ancient perspective we can learn to honour our female sexual organs, treat them with care and appreciate the incredible power they give us as women.

Yoni Steaming is an ancient forgotten practice that was and continues to be, used by medicine women in African, Asian and Mayan cultures. This ritual involves gently steaming the vagina and entire reproductive system, created with warm water and an infusion of medicinal herbs.

Traditionally, Yoni Steams have been used to:

  1. Regulate the menstrual cycle

  2. Reduce PMS symptoms, such as cramps and bloating.

  3. Decrease menstrual flow

  4. Increase fertility

  5. Treat yeast infections

  6. Relax your womb and sexual organs

  7. Speed up post-natal healing & tone the organs

  8. Aid in treating uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, uterine weakness and uterine prolapse & endometriosis

  9. Relieve menopausal symptoms

  10. Helps to remove negative energy and trauma held in this area

  11. Improve circulation

To create your own at home Yoni steam you will need:

  1. a large glass or ceramic bowl

  2. a kettle of boiling water

  3. a herbal steam mix. We have both a calming and relaxing blend.

  4. A towel

Place the herbs into the bowl and then fill up the bowl with boiling water. Allow it to cool slightly so that you don’t burn your skin. Once the steam is a comfortable temperature, sit over the bowl allowing the steam to come into direct contact with the skin. It may be most comfortable to rest the bowl into the toilet seat, and cover your lower half with a towel. Spend 20-40 minutes in steam.

Enhance this 20 – 40 minutes with a practice for honouring your femininity and self love:

Journal:

Write down anything that is coming up for you during this experience, question what stories you’re telling yourself about your sexuality and sexual health. Release the unhelpful stories, by physically brushing or exhaling them out of your body, Then re-write a more positive story that you can start to embody moving forward.

Meditate:

On each inhale, visualise your yoni filling up with love, light and joy on each exhale let go of past hurts, discomfort, the ways in which you’ve rejected your sexuality or femininity.

Afterwards, dry yourself off and then get cozy and warm, preferably lying down and relaxing for an hour afterwards. It’s also great to do before bed.

Return the herbs to the earth, either by composting or burying them in the soil.

Yoni steams are not recommended if you’re pregnant, have an IUD device, or are menstruating.

Repeat a couple of times a month, prior to menstruation to see changes to your overall mind and body.
